The Sri Lanka National Men's Cricket Team, colloquially known as The Lions, represents Sri Lanka in men's international cricket. Under the captaincy of Arjuna Ranatunga, Sri Lanka's national cricket team rose from underdog status to win the Cricket World Cup in 1996. The team has remained a major force in international cricket since then. Sri Lanka won the Cricket World Cup in 1996, the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 (sharing the title with India), and the ICC T20 World Cup in 2014. They finished second in the 2007 and 2011 Cricket World Cups, as well as the 2009 and 2012 ICC T20 World Cups.
India will host Sri Lanka in a three-match Twenty20 International series, beginning on June 23 at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. England's last T20I series was against India away from home earlier this year. The Englishmen won the first and third T20Is by 8 wickets apiece, while the hosts won the other three games.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's most recent T20I assignment was a three-match away series against the West Indies in March. The Windies won the first and third Twenty20 Internationals by a margin of four and three wickets, respectively. The second match was won by the Lankans by a score of 43 runs. They did, however, lose the series after dropping the last two games.
Both sides will attempt different combinations to find the perfect match ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup.
