The Gujarat Environment Management Institute (GEMI) is an Autonomous Institute under the aegis of the Forests & Environment Department, Govt. of Gujarat. GEMI, engaged in carrying out various projects and research activities pertaining to environment and its management in the State of Gujarat through scientific and technical pursuits. And this institute having 36 Employees for various wing like Engineering wing, Laboratory wing, IT wing, Administrative wing, Account wing. In this regards this institute has developed the leave application for maintain the leave record of all employee and reduce the paper work.
About this institute;
Gujarat Environment Management Institute (GEMI) is an Autonomous Institute set up under the aegis of Forest and Department, Government of Gujarat vide Government Resolution on 1st February, 1999. It is an ISO 9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2015 Certified Institute. It is also an OHSAS 18001:2007 Certified Institute. The Institute has been registered under Society Registration Act, 1860 on 1st March, 1999 as well as under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 on 1st March, 1999. Whereas, the Institute shifted its headquarter to Gandhinagar on 1st November, 2011.
In late 90s, when the developed countries became highly conscious about the need to embrace the concept of “Think Global, Act Local”, Gujarat, one of the most progressive states of India, also felt the need of adopting hands-on approach to pursue the very objective of protecting environment. The fast pace of industrial development in the state was really taking its toll and well-planned management of environment was the need of the hour. But to facilitate this, core thrust on research was a must.
Considering this, Gujarat, known for its proactive strategy on all fronts, set up a body called Gujarat Environment Management Institute in 1999. While the broad mandate given to the Institute, widely known as GEMI, was to provide all kind of environment solutions required to ensure sustainable development, research aimed at gauging the impact of various human, economical & industrial activities on the environment and developing standards for prevention of such impacts was the main task assigned to the organization.
Today, about 18 years after its inception, GEMI has emerged as one of the premier Environmental Research Institutes at the National level. The accomplished as well as ongoing projects undertaken by GEMI, the infrastructure it has developed to support environment-related research, the gamut of services it provides and the recognition it has earned among the fraternity engaged in environment protection are indicative of the success attained by the Gandhinagar-based institute while pursuing its very objective of conserving and enriching the environment.
The Institute has now developed a full- fledged laboratory which includes testing of Air, Water, Wastewater, Microbiology and Soil. The Laboratory has been recognized under the Environment Protection Act, 1986. The Laboratory has also been recognized by Government of Gujarat as “State Laboratory” under the Air (Protection and control of pollution) Act, 1981 and Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974. The Institute has been handling many Governments and Private projects. The revamped Institute has been now contributing to the environmental action based on awareness about the environment issues.
Set up with an objective of preserving and protecting the environment of Gujarat, the Institute provides environmental solutions to all concerned. Primary role of GEMI is to focus on Research & Development in the areas of technologies related with Environmental Management as well as evolution of Environmental processes and technologies and render advise on policies that are in consonance with a sustainable and healthy environment.
