Juneteenth is the celebration of the end of chattel slavery and was first started in Texas in1865 when the last enslaved people learned that the Civil War was over and that the Union had won the war.
Juneteenth is celebrated in 50 States across America and is the Country's second Independence Day, The WPA Juneteenth Festival started in 2013 and this year marks the first Pittsburgh and Allegheny County legal holiday in this region.
The Black Music Fest celebrated Black Music Month (June) in America and highlights musical genres initiated by African Americans throughout the country.
The City of Pittsburgh is a world renown hub for Jazz Music and the birthplace of internationally renown Jazz Artist such as: George Benson. Art Blakey. Stanley Turrentine. Billy Eckstine. Lena Horne. Earl “Fatha” Hines. Roger Humphries. Joe Negri and Ahmad Jamal.
