Perched on the Mediterranean’s hem, Ħad-Dingli is one of the most attractive and inspiring villages in the Maltese archipelago, situated in the western part of Malta, eight miles away from Valletta and close to the nearby locality of Rabat. Its coast is completely isolated from the sea by the imposing cliffs which forms a stretch of natural fortifications guarding this part of the archipelago.
It is also lucky enough to be adorned with geographical, geological and hydrological wonders that make it attractive all year round. This confluence of natural attractions has given rise to a rich biodiversity in garage and valley areas, and avifauna in wooden areas and on the cliff sides. The abundance of water due to a substantial clay area has kept a rich agricultural tradition alive for thousands of years. Hence, the local council’s emphasis on developing a Heritage Trail to highlight Ħad-Dingli as a rich rural area.
Pathways with overhanging prickly Pears, flower studded garigue, panoramic cliffs well-watered terraced fields, fresh-water streams, mature woodland, rich bird-life and historic remains make a stroll through Ħad-Dingli a unique experience. Ecclesiastical and religious shrines embellish every nook and cranny of the village.
