Yarn has been a special product for girls and women throughout the generations. In fact, some men enjoy working with yarn as much as the ladies do. One traditional favorite for working with yarn is knitting. Perhaps you have tried it yourself, or have seen older women in your family as they knitted. You can knit baby blankets and booties, scarves, and mittens for everyone in your family. Not only are knitted products lovely, they are also very warm!
The other traditional method of working with yarn is crocheting. Crocheting has become increasingly popular during the last few decades. One reason for this is that crocheting is very simple. Even a young child can do it. You can crochet sweaters, blankets, caps, and many other nice products. As a crochet hook and yarn are portable, you can take your crocheting project with you, to work on whenever you have free time.
Even what you would think is an easy decision that of color seems over whelming with all the choices. Remember that a multi colored variegated yarn will not show your difficult or dimensional stitches at all. If you want to do cables, then a solid, lighter color is best. Fancy yarns with lots of texture are also difficult for showing off your fancy stitches, not to mention they are challenging to work into a piece. Yarn that is not consistent in its thickness will cause fancy stitches to disappear and will be difficult to pull out if you make an error.
Custom colors Ideas - Because it's handmade, there is virtually no limit on color, and most spinners are overjoyed at the idea of providing a custom color for you something that is not an option with commercially spun yarn. Many spinners also use natural dyes in their work, some even making the dyes themselves from what they forage from nature.
Whether you are using art yarn for your entire project or just using it as an accent, it is going to stand out. No two skeins of art yarn are alike, which means whatever you create will be one of a kind! Some art yarns add a subtle touch while others add a nice pop of color. This makes knitted gifts more personable.
Many of us are impatient and want to see the end results of a project. If you are making a blanket or rug, then consider using a bulky or chunky yarn. Yes, it goes fast, but it adds the inches quite quickly and you can use more open stitches and a larger needle or hook compared to a simple stockinette or single crochet. The thickness of the yarn and the openness of your stitches help you see your amazing progress.
If you decide to ever embark on a sweater project, there are some out there that are moderately easy it would be a good idea to try it in super bulky yarn first, even if the pattern doesn't call for it. You can knit the sweater in a weekend using super bulky yarn and some large needles. If you are not super skinny the sweater might not look great on you, but it provides a good practice run for a more advanced project. Once you finished your trial sweater pick the weight that your pattern suggests and try again.
The yarn you have made can also be used for braiding. Braiding is done by intertwining three strands of yarn. The strands can be doubled if you want thicker or heavier braids. They can be all the same color or different colors, depending upon the effect you want.
