WyldWood Stories: BB Speaks Up is the first in a series of soft skills games for kids. Players hone communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills necessary to advocate for themselves and others. Aligned with the National Teaching Standards for ELA Speaking and Listening, the game provides a foundation, that alongside other activities, can result in a positive learning experience.
Follow the story of BB, a student at WyldWood High School who is falling behind in class. BB faces unique social challenges and struggles with integrating a new student, Tucker, into the social scene. Make choices for BB to see how the story plays out. Will Tucker be accepted in the group? Will BB stay friends with Cass? Does BB end the year with a good enough grade to go to Space Camp? You change the outcome based on your decisions.
WyldWood Stories centers around dialogue-based interaction. Players participate in a character-driven story made up of a series of conversations, selecting responses at key junctures. The responses represent using (or not using) the key behaviors to varying degrees. At the end of the game, the player receives feedback about their performance, enabling repeat play toward mastery.
WyldWood Stories features:
-12 unique endings based on the player’s decisions.
-8 stylish animal characters.
-Detailed feedback on the player’s use of advocacy skills.
-A bonus lesson from Mr. K on what it means to advocate for yourself and others.
All games in the WyldWood Stories series were developed in partnership with the Consortium For Public Education. The goal of CPE is to ensure that every student graduates from high school with a formal, viable plan that answers the questions, “Who am I?”, “Who do I want to be?”, and “How do I get there?”.
This project was funded by a grant from the Hillman Foundation, based in Pittsburgh.
