Oyako is the intelligent app designed by professional opticians, to let you create safer working distances for your child's phone.
Oyako allows you to confidently monitor your child's viewing habits. The app runs quietly and effectively in the background, using a simple traffic light system, to gently advise your child. Oyako will educate children on safer viewing distances and therefore help to protect their eyes.
Myopia (short sightedness) is on the increase and WHO estimate that by 2050 half of the world will be myopic! Increased education, being indoors and genetics all have their place in increasing myopia. However, viewing smart devices too closely for prolonged periods of time can cause the eye to change irreversibly.
Oyako will monitor viewing distances and if violated too often will make the screen do dark for 10 seconds. The traffic light system will warn users that they are getting too close and the simple colours will be easily identified, even for younger viewers.
The aim is to make children view at more than 35cm. Anything less can detrimental. Studies in practice have shown that on average children below the age of 3 years, physically do not have arms long enough for this task. Therefore, it is highly recommended that children below 3 years are always supervised when using handheld smart devices.
