Brown University is the seventh-oldest research institution of higher education in the country of United States. It is a private university established in Providence, Rhode Island in 1764. It is part of the Ivy League and was the first institution to accept admissions without giving importance to any affiliations to religion. Brown University ranked 14th in the 2020 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities. The university is known for providing excellent courses in English language and literature, economics and econometrics, and development studies. Admission under undergraduate courses of Brown University is highly selective and has a 7.1 % acceptance rate of over 38,674 applications for the class of 2023.

Engineering, General, Biology/Biological Sciences, General, Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies, Econometrics and Quantitative Economics and Computer Science are some of the most popular majors at Brown University. Also, the average freshman retention rate, an indicator of student satisfaction, is 98 percent.

93% of 2018 Brown graduates went on to employment or graduate/professional school at or within six months of graduation. The new ‘Open Curriculum’, launched in 1970, allowed students to develop their own core curriculum rather than be bound to a prescribed liberal arts education. Economics, Computer Science, and Biology are some of the popular majors offered by Brown University. Almost 50 admitted first-year undergraduates are accepted to the Alpert Medical School through Brown’s eight-year Program in Liberal Medical Education.

The university’s fabulous campus includes 230 buildings that spread across 150 acres. With more than 400 student organizations on campus, students can pursue their interests and engage in different meaningful activities. All students are required to stay on campus for their first six semesters, though a small percentage of juniors can receive permission to live off-campus. Brown has more than 35 NCAA Division I athletic teams and compete in the Ivy League.

As of August 2018, 8 Nobel Prize winners have been associated with it. Chief Justice of a U.S. Supreme Court, 8 billionaire graduates, 4 U.S. State Secretaries along with other officials of Cabinet, 56 Rhodes Scholars, 54 members of the U.S. Congress, 52 Gates scholars of Cambridge, 14 MacArthur Fellows, 21 Pulitzer Prize winners, 49 Marshall Scholars and several others form the notable alumni of this renowned U.S. University. Ten laureates of National Medal of Science and 5 Medallists’ of National Humanities are included in the university’s faculty and alumni too. CNN founder Ted Turner, John F. Kennedy Jr., and John D. Rockefeller Jr. are some
of the notable alumni to name a few.
