Description:

Welcome to Vrchlabí!

Welcome to Vrchlabi, a town in the foothills that lies on the River Labe (the Elbe), the cultural centre and the gateway to the Krkonose mountains. Vrchlabi lies at the centre of the mountain massif of the highest Czech mountains. It has around 13 thousand inhabitants and its centre is situated at an altitude of 477 m a.s.l. It is dominated by Zaly mountain, 1019 m a.s.l. The stone viewing tower on its peak offers a lovely view of Mount Snezka, the highest Czech mountain, of the typical pointed silhouette of Jested tower and, if the weather is good, of almost one-third of the Czech Republic.

The town’s central part has been declared a protected national heritage zone due to the many interesting buildings and structures. The town offers many opportunities for cultural, sports and recreational activities, shopping centres, a broad range of accommodation and services, shops, restaurants, banks, etc. Vrchlabi is also an ideal place from which to set off on hikes and cycling trips.

Winter in Vrchlabi – this means three ski resorts near the town, namely Herlikovice, Bubakov and Knezicky vrch, a wide range of cross-country ski tracks, a circuit with lights and artificial snow, 3.6 km in length, at a place called Vejsplachy, a roofed ice hockey stadium and many others.

Summer – Vrchlabi is an intersection for Krkonose cyclo-buses, and visitors can enjoy sightseeing flights from the local airfield, views from the Zaly viewing tower (1019 m a.s.l.), guided tours of Vrchlabi’s sights, a summer cinema and many other opportunities.

Come and take the Visitors’ Tour around the palace, palace park and the monastery garden to the Baroque Augustinian Monastery with exhibitions of the Krkonose Museum, to the Four Historical Houses with interesting exhibitions on the life of the former mountain people, past the Neo-Gothic Church of St. Lawrence and to the historical town hall.
