You will need to take a 50 multiple-choice question knowledge test to get your Wisconsin instruction permit or driver’s license. You will need to answer 40 of 50 questions correctly, in order to get achieve the required passing ratio of 80%. The knowledge test is administered via an automated, touchscreen computer system, with an “audio assist” option, which can be added by an examiner for those who struggle with reading or have a disability that affects reading. In addition to English, the test is available in the following several written languages: Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Polish, Serbo-Croatian, Somali, and Hmong. You are only allowed to take the test five times in a single year, and if you wish to retake it after a fifth failure, you will need to get special permission from DMV staff, which will only be granted after showing you have done something to improve your chances of passing.
