*This Update includes bug fixes and improvements
*New version with some awesome features
The aim of this app is to help the reader appreciate the relevance of virology in the modern world, including the fields of vaccines, anti-viral drugs and cancer. There is also a chapter on prions.
This remains an excellent app for any student studying virology as part of their degree. The early chapters provide a thorough and clearly written background to the necessary molecular biology, and are suitable both for the beginner but also as a short refresher course. The app uses figures and schematics extremely well to explain a number of diverse virus replication cycles in helpful stages, building towards the bigger picture each time. Supporting chapters exploring concepts such as vaccines, therapeutics and pathology make the app a very complete yet compact review of modern virology. I highly recommend this app.
Virology is a fascinating and rapidly developing subject. The introduction of new laboratory techniques and the continued application of established methods are producing a wealth of new information. Virology is a branch of science that is of immense relevance to mankind for a host of reasons, not least of which is the threat to human health caused by viruses, such as HIV, the hepatitis B virus, papillomaviruses, measles and influenza viruses, to mention just a few.
The app of Virology is an accessible introduction designed to enable students to understand the principles of virus structure, replication and genetics. The aim of this app is to help the reader appreciate the relevance of virology in the modern world, including the fields of vaccines, anti-viral drugs and cancer. There is also a chapter on prions. The second edition has been extensively revised and updated to reflect the many developments in virology and offers deeper insights into the subject. Newly-discovered viruses are discussed and there is an additional chapter on the influenza virus.
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
An introduction to the relevance of virology to the modern world, including the latest developments in the field
An introduction to the theories behind the origins of viruses and how they are evolving, with discussion on emerging viruses
Aimed at undergraduate students of biology, microbiology and biomedical sciences taking courses in virology, this is also an invaluable resource for graduate students who have previously studied little or no virology and are looking for an accessible introduction to the subject.
Virology: Principles and Applications is a clear and accessible introduction to this fast-moving field, providing a comprehensive resource enabling the reader to understand the key concepts surrounding this exciting subject. The reader is introduced to the principles of virus structure, replication and genetics, along with the theories behind the origins of viruses and how they are evolving.
this app covers the field of virology from molecular biology to disease processes using a unique systems approach. There is a new chapter on Human Viral Disease and rapidly developing areas, such as the use of viruses as gene therapy vectors, have been included.
The consideration of immunology now covers two chapters, one on innate immunity and the other on adaptive immunity, reflecting the explosion in knowledge of viral interactions with these systems.
The coverage of vaccines and antivirals has been expanded and separated into two new chapters to reflect the importance of these approaches to prevention and treatment.
Virus infections in humans are considered in more detail with new chapters on viral hepatitis, influenza, vector-borne diseases, and exotic and emerging viral infections, complementing an updated chapter on HIV.
The final section includes three new chapters on the broader aspects of the influence of viruses on our lives, focussing on the economic impact of virus infections, the ways we can use viruses in clinical and other spheres, and the impact that viruses have on the planet and almost every aspect of our lives.
