An unexpected fact was the existence of a device that reports the accuracy of a gravity sensor as a three-digit number.
This unpleasantly clutters the voice message of the program.
The new version of the program is now voiced only one low digit of such non-standard number.
The application is a shorter version of the navikos application.
It only announces the compass information.
It completely ignores geolocation tasks and therefore can not act as a guide for blind users.
The need to develop this helper was caused by attempts to use the navikos application for sailing on a boat.
A boat on free water can not stop, preserving its orientation.
Therefore, the orientation information provided by the navikos application with a tempo of 8 seconds does not allow tracking the real orientation of the boat.
In this case, information about the orientation should be voiced as often as possible, and this is what the compass_only application described here does.
The application uses a magnetic field type compass sensor and does not use an orientation type sensor.
This type of sensor is considered as deprecated and developer guides do not recommend using it.
Therefore, the interface of compass_only application does not contain a button that allows you to change the type of compass sensor.
The application contains only three control buttons.
Two of them allow you to set an amendment to the readings of the compass.
This is useful, for example, if the device in your pocket does not look forward, but rather sideways.
The third button provides application shutdown.
The application continuously announces the orientation of the device.
Each fifth sound is accompanied by additional information about the hardware accuracy of the gravity and the magnetic field sensors.
The user cannot change the accuracy of the gravity sensor reported by the device.
The best accuracy of the sensor corresponds to the value 3, however, some of my devices report this value for the gravity sensor as 0 or 2.
This fuzziness can be ignored.
On the other hand, if the accuracy of the magnetic field sensor is different from 3, the device should be turned by hand until this value becomes 3.
Of course, this should exclude the influence of extraneous magnetic fields on the device.
If the hardware of your smartphone does not support the operation of these sensors, then the only result of launching the compass_only application on it will be the periodical scoring of the message, offering to install this program on another device.
I studied various devices, while hoping to find out the most suitable device for working with the application navikos.
The alcatel onetouch popup device proved to be the best in geolocation accuracy.
However, the compass on this device is not reliable enough.
The HUAWEI P smart device has a completely reliable compass, but it is not suitable for working with the navikos application due to poor geolocation accuracy.
Currently, I go for walks with two of these devices.
On the first one, the navikos_lite application works, on the second the compass_only application works.
Perhaps, for you, it will also be more comfortable using such set of applications of the navikos family.
