The Company of Biologists is a not-for-profit publishing organisation dedicated to supporting and inspiring the biological community. We are run by distinguished practicing scientists. We exist to profit science, not shareholders. We inspire new thinking and support the worldwide community of biologists.
We publish five specialist peer-reviewed journals: Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open. We host three community sites, the Node, preLights and FocalPlane. Furthermore, we facilitate scientific meetings, provide travel grants for researchers and support research societies. We ensure the profits from the hard work of scientists inspire future scientific discovery and develop the next generation.
The teams behind our journals bring you the most relevant and challenging topics for discussion, through a series of international meetings.
Each meeting is individually crafted to suit the topic and audience with a focus on networking and opportunities for attendees to more widely share their latest research.
Themes explored in the Journal Meetings go on to be discussed in our journals, helping to shape the field and even the journals themselves.
The Workshops run by The Company of Biologists provide leading experts and early-career researchers from a diverse range of scientific backgrounds with a stimulating environment for the cross-fertilisation of interdisciplinary ideas. The programmes are carefully developed and are intended to champion the novel techniques and innovations that will underpin important scientific advances.
