According to Shiva Purana, Batuk Bhairav is a God who is worshipped before the commencement of the worship of Shiva and shakti, tantra sadhana. Batuk bhairav incarnated to make balance amongst the trinity. Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. To punish Brahma for his pride and Ignorance. One can freely worship Batuk Bhairav, a very kind and easy pleasing God, and bestows all the blessings to his devotees. Grihasth (people having a family) and tantriks both can worship lord Batuk Bhairav Freely. Literally the first word ‘Batuk’ means ‘young boy, boy below puberty age.
Kala Bhairava is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and the Devata of the Lord Rahu (Navagraha Planet). Kala Bhairava is also regarded as the guardian of Lord Shiva temples. भैरव का अर्थ होता है भय का हरण कर जगत का भरण करने वाला। ऐसा भी कहा जाता है कि भैरव शब्द के तीन अक्षरों में ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश तीनों की शक्ति समाहित है। भैरव शिव के गण और पार्वती के अनुचर माने जाते हैं। हिंदू देवताओं में भैरव का बहुत ही महत्व है। इन्हें काशी का कोतवाल कहा जाता है।
भैरव उत्पत्ति : उल्लेख है कि शिव के रूधिर से भैरव की उत्पत्ति हुई। बाद में उक्त रूधिर के दो भाग हो गए- पहला बटुक भैरव और दूसरा काल भैरव। मुख्यत: दो भैरवों की पूजा का प्रचलन है, एक काल भैरव और दूसरे बटुक भैरव।
