Hanuman Jayanti is a Hindu religious festival that celebrates the birth of Hindu God Hanuman, who is immensely venerated throughout India and Nepal. This festival is celebrated on different days in different parts of India.
Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Mahabali Hanuman. This Lord Rama devotee was born on the 15th day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra to Anjana Devi and the king Kesari. It is said that Hanuman's mother Anjana worshipped God Shiva for almost 12 years with her intense prayers to bless her with a child. Thus, God Shiva was pleased with her prayers and blessed her with a boy child. Hanuman is thus called as the incarnation of Lord Shiva in the Treta Yugam.
