From February 1998 to May 2000, the U. S. Postal Service issued ten sheets of stamps commemorating the important events of each of the decades in the 20th century. This series of stamps were identified as “Celebrate the Century” and each featured 15 different historical happenings.
The first in the series covering events from 1900 to 1909 featured the following events:

· Life of President Theodore Roosevelt
· Making of the movie “Great Train Robbery”
· Marketing of Crayola crayons
· Opening of the St. Louis World's Fair
· Passing of the Pure Food and Drug Act
· Invention of the Wright Flyer
· Immigrants arriving at Ellis Island
· Homage to environmentalist John Muir
· Creation of the Teddy bear
· Social activist W. E. B. Du Bois
· The Gibson Girl
· 1903 Baseball World Series
· Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Robie House
· Painting by a member of the Ashcan School
