Bilingual Dzongkha (Bhutanese) English Dictionary
The app consists of major monolingual (Dzongkha) and bilingual (Dzongkha-English and English-Dzongkha) dictionaries of the Dzongkha Development Commission. This gives access to the Dzongkha dictionaries on the fingertips unlike the traditional bulky printed dictionaries.
Dzongkha Development commission is the premier institute in the country mandated to develop and promote Dzongkha, the National Language of Bhutan.
The vision of the commission is to make Dzongkha the main medium of communication for every Bhutanese in order to promote harmony, cohesion and stability in the country.
With advancement of technology and Bhutan's aim of creating ICT enabled society, to promote Dzongkha through ICT is one of the objectives of the commission and with increasing number of smart phone users and mobile phone penetration outpacing the other means of communication in the country, promoting Dzongkha through mobile phones is seen to be one of the most effective strategies.
This 3 in 1 dictionary app is developed to give easy access to Dzongkha dictionaries of the Dzongkha Development Commission and encourages Bhutanese to use Dzongkha as main medium of communication in their day-to-day life.
Except for installation, Internet is not required to use the app. Users can search for words both in English and Dzongkha. In the result, part of speech and meaning of the word searched will be displayed. Compatible Dzongkha supported multilingual keyboard must be installed to be able to search in Dzongkha.
This app was developed by Dzongkha Development Commission in collaboration with G2C Office under the Prime Ministers Office of Bhutan, “In pursuit of Improving Public Service Delivery”.
