Although Jerome's Latin translation has played a major role in the development of Christian theology in Europe in the Middle Ages, but the development of local language and church reform movement has led to the translation into the local community in the 15th century and the 16th. At the end of the 18th century, the translation of the Bible was written in European languages and several languages outside Europe, including the Malays.
In the 19th century, during the period of deployment of the mission, the Bible was translated into hundreds of regional languages in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and American. At this time the Bible was available in more than 2,000 languages.

Indonesian Bible text is longstanding. Since the beginning of the 17th century (in 1612 in Batavia) up to now there are at least 22 versions of the complete Bible ever translated and published in the Malay-Indonesian (modern and ancient, low, and high), and form part of it already translated into more than 100 local languages, while some languages, such as Javanese and Batak, have more than one version.
